Many education counsellors from education agencies often advise student to start exploring as early as possible as you are not the only student looking for accommodation just before the start of each semester.
There are many options available out there, be it staying on campus, off campus or homestay.
The main points students should consider are:

• Proximity to you study campus
• Accessibility to your frequently visit locations such as friends, regular work or recreational commitments
• Nearby facilities eg.. public transport, super marts, food courts, shops, medical
• Budget – additional fees for connection and use of utilities (electricity, water, gas, telephone and internet)

Application for staying on-campus is a very safe and sensible option as these are usually owned by the universities. As for off campus accommodation, there are many scammers out there trying to make easy money.

Another option worth exploring is homestay. Homestay provides a safe, supportive and welcoming environment, while giving you the opportunity to immerse in local culture and improving your spoken English.

The main issue is the most residential colleges usually require you to apply early and yet the offers will only be issued very near the start date.
